Send AI written titles to Google

Updated 2026-08-12

If the product titles in your feed were written by generative AI, Google asks you to send them in a field called structured title rather than the normal title field. The extra field tells Google how the title was written. Turn on one setting and your feed does this for you.

Turn it on

  1. Open your feed and go to the **Basic** tab.

    This is where the Title setting already lives.

  2. Tick **Titles are written by AI**.

    The setting is for Google feeds. Other channels have no matching field, so it does not appear on them.

  3. Save.

    Your feed rebuilds and every product moves to the new field on the next run.

Note

Nothing else changes. Your title rules, your per product edits and the 150 character limit all work exactly as before.

When to turn it on

Turn it on when the titles reaching your feed came from a generative AI tool. That includes titles written by an AI assistant connected to this app, and titles you generated elsewhere and saved onto your Shopify products.

Leave it off when you wrote your titles yourself, even if you used a spelling checker or a template. Rules that join fields together, like brand plus product name plus color, are not generative AI.

A feed is one setting or the other for every product in it. If some titles are written by AI and some are not, put them in separate feeds or leave the setting off.

What your feed sends

The title moves field, it does not get copied. Google uses the normal title field and ignores the structured one whenever both are present, so sending both would undo the whole thing.

<g:structured_title>
  <g:digital_source_type>trained_algorithmic_media</g:digital_source_type>
  <g:content>Merino Wool Crew Neck Sweater Navy M</g:content>
</g:structured_title>

Spreadsheet feeds get a structured_title column in place of the title column, holding the same value in Google's text format. Feeds sent straight to Merchant Center over the connection send the same thing in the format that API expects.

Does it change performance

There is no evidence that it does. The feed tool VersaFeed tested both fields across 9,000 products and reported the same impressions, clicks and cost per click either way. Google publishes no penalty for getting it wrong either. The reason to turn it on is that it is what Google's product data specification asks for.

Frequently asked questions

Will my products be rejected if I use AI titles in the normal field?

Google's documentation does not state a penalty. It asks for generative AI titles in the structured title field, so the setting keeps your feed matching the specification.

Does this apply to descriptions too?

Google has a matching structured description field. This app sends descriptions in the normal field today.

What if only some of my titles are written by AI?

The setting covers the whole feed. Split those products into their own feed, or leave the setting off until every title in the feed is AI written.

Does turning this on change my product pages?

No. Nothing in the feed editor changes your Shopify store. Only the feed file and what is sent to Merchant Center change.
