Custom product feeds for Shopify

Some destinations want a file no standard feed fits, like a Google Ads page feed with two columns or a comparison site with its own template. A Custom feed holds only the fields you add, under the names you type.

Add any of these fields as a column, or name fields of your own.

How it works

Every field takes its value from the same lists as any other feed setting. Pick a product field, combine fields, replace values from a table or set a rule for some products. The file rebuilds itself as your catalog changes.

  1. Create a Custom feed

Pick Custom as the channel and choose CSV, TSV or XML. The feed starts empty, ready for your fields.

  2. Add your fields

Type each name the way the destination spells it, then pick the value from your product data.

  3. Copy the URL

Paste the feed URL wherever the file goes, like a page feed in Google Ads that fetches it on a schedule.

  4. Stay in sync

The file rebuilds once a day and within minutes of a product change, so every row stays current.

What you get

  • Only the fields you add

No Google columns ride along. A page feed with two fields is a file with two columns.

  • Names the template asks for

Type names with spaces and capitals, like Page URL or Custom label, exactly as the destination spells them.

  • Values from a list, not code

Pick a product field, join fields with a separator, replace values from a table or take part of a field. A custom expression covers the rest.

  • A row for every variant

Each variant gets its own row and its own URL. Or send each product once, with its plain product link.

  • CSV, TSV or XML

Pick the format the destination reads. In XML each field becomes its own tag.

  • Sell in every market

Each market gets its own feed with local prices, translated content and market URLs.

A Google Ads page feed

A Custom feed with two fields, as Google Ads fetches it from the feed URL. Each variant gets its own row and its own URL.

Frequently asked questions

What can a Custom feed build?

Any file of product rows that a destination fetches from a URL, like a Google Ads page feed or a comparison site's template. Each row is a variant or a product, and each column is a field you add.

How do I build a Google Ads page feed?

Create a Custom feed as a CSV. Add a field named Page URL set to Variant URL and a field named Custom label set to the value you group pages by. Then add the feed URL as a page feed under Business data in Google Ads.

Can a field send different values for different products?

Yes. Add a rule to the field and it sends one value to products that match a condition and another to the rest, such as a label for one vendor's products.

Can the file be XML?

Yes. Pick XML and each field becomes its own tag. A tag can't hold a space, so XML field names start with a letter and use only letters, numbers, underscores, hyphens and dots.

Do products without an image or a price still get a row?

Yes. A Custom feed requires no field, so every variant in the feed gets its row, with or without an image or a price.

Which plans include Custom feeds?

Every paid plan, and each starts with a free trial. The Free plan carries a Google Shopping feed only.
